Campaign Game

THUP set out to spend some time this summer working on our own game. We wanted to create a game with depth that had a twist or two from the usual web game setting and play style. We were also looking for an opportunity to take CS3/Actionscript 3.0 for a spin and get a little more experience working with the Smart Fox Server platform.

We came up with the idea for Campaign -- a game which mixes the U.S. Political campaign with a unique turn based tactical combat system. In Campaign, players choose their favorite presidential candidates, build a staff of ruthless aides and storm across the country rallying supporters, raising cash and slugging it out with opponents.

The game supports both single player and multi player.

Typically, turn based tactical combat games are military themed or fantasy themed. The political setting provided us with some entertaining metaphors to work with -- candidates 'capture' territory as armies do, money earned acts as a 'mana' of sorts that can be used to cast 'spells' like the Attack Ad, and various political jargon (mud slinging, hatchet jobs) provided some good/terrible puns to use for attacks.

Alongside the game we created a collection of charts that record which candidates are winning and losing based on games played, mimicking political polling charts and campaign results.
